The Paediatric Tracheostomy Care and Management Workshop is designed to provide learners with the underpinning concepts of post operative care and management of paediatric/neonatal patients who have undergone tracheostomy. It will develop the participant’s knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system; indications/complications of tracheostomy; and types of tracheostomy tubes used for certain age groups. It will also enhance skills in performing tracheal suctioning; changing tracheostomy tapes and stoma care. Learners will be able to demonstrate the use of the emergency equipment needed for a tracheostomy accidental decannulation and perform emergency algorithm for tracheostomy on a training manakin.
